Head of Technical for multi-site Food Manufacturer who prides themselves on exceptional quality. Leading the Technical function at their flagship North London site, you’ll manage a team of Technical and Quality Managers and will play a pivotal role in shaping and leading the company’s ambitious technical strategy, driving a culture of food quality and safety.
Reporting to the Technical Director, responsibilities for the role will include:
- Setting the Technical team up for success, ensuring alignment with the Technical Strategy.
- Continuously seeking creative solutions for positive change, actively gathering feedback.
- Fostering a high-performance environment where everyone can achieve their full potential.
- Leading changes in legislation, customer requirements, and industry standards to continually improve the Technical Management System.
- Providing expert knowledge in food quality culture to support the business.
- Maintaining, developing, and reviewing the Technical / Quality Plan to meet BRC standards and customer needs.
- Developing and implementing Technical procedures, risk assessments, and compliance systems.
- Leading internal, external, customer, and supplier audits, ensuring audit readiness and Technical excellence.
- Communicating effectively with senior customers and stakeholders on audits, compliance, investigations, and continuous improvement.
- Coaching and supporting the Technical team, ensuring success by aligning them with the wider Technical Strategy.
- Building strong relationships with senior leadership and external partners, influencing decisions at all levels.
Essential / Desirable skills include:
- Experience of working with chilled high risk / high care foods
- A degree in Food Science and a Lead Auditor Qualification
- HACCP Level 4 and Food Safety Level 3 – Both Essential
- Experience in a Fast-Paced Environment – Proven ability to thrive in dynamic settings where each day presents new challenges.
- Experience with Major UK Retailers and The British Retail Consortium
- Successful track record of driving food safety and quality culture change, from strategic planning to day-to-day operations.
- Strong leadership in managing and motivating a Technical team, currently operating at Head of Technical level
- Ability to balance long-term strategies with immediate operational needs when making decisions.
- Skilled in building and maintaining relationships across the organisation and with external stakeholders, demonstrating strong customer-facing abilities.
- Effective in guiding and persuading colleagues at all levels to support decisions and plans.
- Commercial Awareness and Analytical Skills – able to make data-driven decisions that benefit the business, with the ability to analyse complex information and assess risks.

The working hours are Monday to Friday – office hours, 40 hours per week. The salary is £100k – £120k per annum plus up to 20% bonus.
